Valentines Day is approaching in rather large steps.
I was thinking about posting a three couse dinner at first, but then I decided not to.
Personally I don’t like the hype that is around this specific day and although it became associated with love and romantic gestures back in the 14th century – a lot of time to get used to it, one would think. What I don’t like about it is the pressure, people put on themselves and others. This specific day HAS to be special, right now!! Big gestures, proposals, dinners and and and… You had a busy day at work and would like nothing more but to finally snuggle up on the sofa and fall asleep on your partners lap? It’s Valentine’s Day, go shave your legs and put on some make up and your romance face. I did a quick google search for presents and the very first thing that came up was a rose gold ring for only £1499,99. Excuse me, but fuck off?! I would feel like Frodo, carrying the one ring, possibly getting attacked by Gollum any minute to chew my finger off. I’m sorry, I’m getting distracted. Back to food.
I quite enjoy pretty plates and I also quite enjoy doing little things to make my husband smile, like a heart shaped egg or a cheese toastie with some extra cheese, or even a cup of tea on a sunday, so this is a cute idea to make people smile without spending a ridiculous amount of money.
All you need is:
a heart shaped cookie cutter
bread of your choice
100g of cream cheese
100 g of smoked salmon
a branch of fresh dill
1/2 a clove of garlic
a tablespoon of olive oil
and salt and pepper
Put the salmon, the oil, the dill, the garlic and a teaspoon of the cream cheese into a blender. Grate about a third of the lemon zest, then cut the lemon in half and add a splash of juice to the blender. I like lemon juice, but make sure it’s not overpowering. Do not use more than half a lemon. Also, don’t add all the cream cheese to the mixer, it will become liquid and you don’t want a weird salmon sauce.
Blend the salmon and then carefully mix it with the remaining cream cheese and the lemon zest.
Cut out your bread hearts and you’re done!
Everybody say love. 🙂
PS. If Valentine’s Day is your favourite thing on the planet, I am obviously not judging, I’m just talking about myself.
